Accessibility
We want every family to be able to use this website, apply for a seat and read our records.
Last reviewed: October 12, 2026.
Our standard
Our accessibility target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We also use WCAG 2.2 AA when improving this website. The review covers public pages, family applications and the staff workspace.
Using this website
- Use the “Skip to main content” link to move past the navigation.
- Menus, forms and dialogs support keyboard controls and visible focus.
- Application forms identify required fields and connect errors to the fields that need attention. You can save a draft and return to it.
- Results charts are accompanied by text and tables.
- Motion is reduced when your device requests reduced motion. Moving award displays have a pause control.
Documents and video
Current testing calendars, the sports schedule, the Whiteville September 2026 menus, the supply list and the uniform policy are available as readable web pages with tagged PDF downloads. Twenty-one additional reading editions cover the handbooks, amendments, parent guides, mental-health plans, school improvement plans, scope and sequence, and two historical board meetings. These editions retain published wording and dates, including labeled additions and deletions in tracked amendments. PDF improvements include reading order, headings, table headers, link descriptions and image descriptions. Ten rebuilt PDFs pass automated PDF/UA-1 checks; human review and native screen-reader testing are still required. All 21 retained original-layout PDFs have been checked for structure and content, with additional uniform and behavior-table repairs. Full reading-order and assistive-technology review remains open. Within the October 3 reviewed historical subset, 80 records still need verified accessible replacements. The archive includes additional documents outside that subset; machine text extraction and OCR candidates do not complete that work. Structural PDF tags alone do not establish accessibility.
Captions, transcripts and audio descriptions for linked school videos still need verification against the original media. The video dialog provides a clear close control and contact information for requesting another format. Uniform ordering, parent portals, job applications and external records include routes for asking the campus or network office for help. Their external services still need separate review.
Financial records now also have page-by-page web reading editions with table headings: FY2025 audited financial statements and the 2025 school-data presentation. Original PDF downloads are retained. These new editions still need native screen-reader and full reading-order acceptance.
Tell us about a barrier or request another format
Email the published network office contact, call 910-655-3600, or contact your campus office. Include the page or document, the difficulty you encountered and the format or assistance you need. You may contact the office without using the family application.
For a concern that needs escalation, the Parent and Student Handbook describes the school’s grievance process: raise the concern with the party involved, then school administration, and then the Board of Trustees if it remains unresolved.
Review and ongoing work
The October 12, 2026 review covers public pages, the campus landing pages, inquiry forms, the family account and the staff workspace. It checks page structure, image alternatives, link and control names, field labels, local destinations and authored color contrast. Improvements include removal of empty headings, better field help and errors, clearer focus indicators, dependable text contrast over photos, keyboard focus recovery and announcements for changing results. Original PDF downloads remain available. Browser rendering, enlarged-text behavior, native screen-reader testing, external services and the availability of captions and audio descriptions still require review. These source and automated checks do not establish full ADA or WCAG conformance or a measured WAVE score.
October 2026 UI improvements
Calendar access now leads parent resources, and campus application actions retain the existing official school forms. The approved photograph carousel has five individually labeled photo dots and a Pause/Play control. Selecting a dot pauses automatic rotation, keyboard focus pauses rotation, and reduced-motion settings stop automatic playback. New charts retain visible data labels and source context. Menus and footer resources use the existing brand colors and visible focus treatments.
Approved full-year campus-branded calendar replacements and any missing school-specific documents are still required from the school. Current official campus documents remain available. The reading editions now include descriptive table names and scroll-region labels; empty cells in the Scope and Sequence are ordinary cells rather than unnamed column headers. Every original PDF remains unchanged. Historical PDF remediation, reviewed video captions, external service accessibility and native assistive-technology testing remain open.
